Thursday, June 28 Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens Kitchen Garden Series
Features "Entertaining by the Seasons: Summer" with Maine Food & Lifestyle
Columnist Lani Temple
On Thursday, June 28 at 3:30 p.m., Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will host
a cooking demonstration with Maine Food & Lifestyle Columnist and
Megunticook Market owner Lani Temple. She will share simple but savory
recipes for seasonal marinades and salads that are great for entertaining.
Temple will appear in the new Kitchen Garden Café at the Gardens, located
off Barters Island Road in Boothbay. The fee is $20 for members and $25 for
non-members. For reservations or more information, call 633-4333. To learn

Temple has the perfect solution for warm summer evenings. "With only a
little preparation and no cooking outside of grilling, a whole-meal salad is
a convenient choice for a light and refreshing meal as a midweek dinner,"
she explains. "A beautiful salad is appetizing. Simply assemble the greens
on a platter, add a layer of red tomatoes, green cucumbers, and purple
radishes, and top with slices of grilled chicken, beef or fish for a hearty
and healthy meal."
"The most popular versions are grilled chicken salad and sliced flank steak
salad with blue cheese and sweet red onions." For added texture, flavor and
nutrition, Temple likes to use rice, grains and beans in her summer salads.
For a fast, fresh, and delicious family meal, Temple offers up a Grilled Chicken Salad
recipe to be enjoyed outdoors this summer.
